London authorities have made a serious mistake when they restricted the access of Romanian and Bulgarian immigrants on its labor market, The Independent daily comments. The measure, considered populist and ridiculous has significant consequences in the agricultural sector. The newspaper reads that there are some 6 million euro in damages in Scotland alone where fruits are rotting due to lack of temporary work force.
The Independent mentions that on the short term, British authorities should take into account farmers’ recommendations to increase the number of temporary workers. Moreover, on the long term, the newspaper adds, British authorities should think twice before making such decisions.
