The Indian Jodhpuri or Prince suit is the Indian equivalent of the western tuxedo or lounge suit. It has a very regal and stately impact and is usually worn with matching trousers. Its length is similar to suit jacket and has a standup collar also called Nehru collar; it’s most dominant characteristic. The fabric used to make Jodhpuri is similar to that of the western suit. This attire is usually embellished with intricate embroidery and other detailing to enhance its overall look.
The Jodhpuri comprises of a coat and a trouser and is occasionally teamed with a vest. It is best suited for formal occasions like parties or weddings. The traditional appeal of the Jodhpuri suit is further enhanced with traditional embroideries like Kashmiri, zardozi, Aari Bharat and so on. The trousers can either be designed in parallel style or with a crumpled stitch at the bottom. These are again available in a wide variety of colors ranging from copper, grey to navy blue among others. It is advisable to accessorize with a turban or chain as well in order to complete the look, although this is a matter of personal choice and preference. Make sure the footwear is just appropriate and fuses well with the attire.
Jodhpuri suits lend a feeling of elegance and add that touch of royalty and make a very powerful statement. Nehru shirts should be worn with Jodhpuri suits, which essentially have a button closure at the base of the neck.
