The Bikini killer, French National Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj a.k.a. known as The Serpent has been turned down by the Supreme Court of Nepal (SC) in his desperate attempt to escape law. The SC on Tuesday announced that it would pass the verdict on the case only after the Appellate Court settles the petition filed by Sobhraj, claiming that the passport hailed as his to prove him a murder, was fake.
A joint bench of justices comprising Min Bahadur Rayamajhi and Kalyan Shrestha on Sunday (December28, 2008) had decided to pass the judgment today after conducting the hearing on the case by legal practitioners.
Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj 64 is the leading culprit behind the killing of an American national Connie Jo Bronzich in 1975 and the Kathmandu District Court in 2004 sentenced Sobhraj with life imprisonment on the charge of killing the American tourist.
After the Patan Appellate court found him guilty of the murder case, Sobhraj’s lawyers had filed the appeal in the SC on November 10, 2005, claiming that the lower court held him guilty based on the baseless evidences that are not acceptable to the law.
Sobhraj was spotted in the capital in 2003 September by a daily magazine (The Himalayan Times} which published the news of him and he was arrested from royal casino in downtown capital on the three-decade old Bronzich murder file which was reopened.
During the 1970s, Sobhraj was accused of killing several Western tourists and he is believed to have murdered at least 20 people in Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Turkey, Nepal, Iran and Hong Kong
Sobhraj has always been insisting that he is innocent and had never visited Nepal before he was arrested in 2003.
After his imprisonment in 2004, Sobharaj was again headlining newspapers and news media for his allegedly love affair with a 20-year-old Nihita Biswas whom he met during the jail stay in Nepal. Moreover, the ice broke when Nihita accepted the rumors on a national Television channel (Kantipur TV) and expressed that they were having an affair and had plans to get married after Sobhraj gets out of prison.
According to the Wikipedia, “Charles Gurumukh Sobhraj born on April 6, 1944 in Saigon, Vietnam is a French serial killer of Indian and Vietnamese origin, who preyed on Western tourists throughout Southeast Asia during the 1970s.
