The Kalam Effect :A Book on Dr.Abdul Kalam by P.M.Nair released

‘The Kalam Effect: My Years With the President ‘is the latest biography of Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, written by P.M.Nair, the former President’s Secretary.

Eventhough  the ‘People’s President’had been out of office for more than a year, still Abdul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam still holds a position in people’s heart.The former president’s secretary, P.M.Nair, gives an insight of the president’s house in his new book.

The Kalam Effect, reveals the quirkiness and indomitable spirit of  India’s former president.The author is unabashed in his reverence for Kalam, but not without reasons.In the book Nair says Kalam  always gave him the freedom of speech in front of dignitaries.However, the book also tries to clear some of  the stones that were thrown at the President’s glass house.

For example, a lot has been said about Afzal Guru’s mercy petition.Though the petition was sent to Kalam, he had to direct it to the home ministry for recommendations, but until his last day in office no recommendation came from the Home Ministry.

The book also shows the view on President’s functioning during his tenure of five years., transformed the way people looked at the country’ highest office.

The book also even casts a shadow on Dr.Kalam’s weaknesses..He was never known for his punctuality. His morning meeting would begin by 230 p.m, just to begin half an hour later.

The book is different as it does not make an attempt to profile the former president.The language is crisp and simple.Despite of hailing many a number of his decisions, the author  also expressed his difficulty, how as a bureaucrat he found it so difficult to cope up with the decisions of  a non-politician president.
