At last, the University of the Philippines Centennial Celebration is here! An hour and a half ago, a Thanksgiving Mass was held in UP Manila and followed by the 2-hour Celebration Program. More events will happen. So, to all UP Alumni, hope to see you today at University Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City! Because right after the program in UP Manila, a motorcade will proceed to UP Diliman. Sure enough, expect heavy traffic because the motorcade will meet other UP College Units Contingents by 2:00PM along Quezon Avenue, right in front of the Lung Center of the Philippines.
The motorcade will be welcomed by the sky divers with banners. They will land in an open area near the Plaridel Hall. To serve as signal to start this memorable event, the sounds of “Tambuli” and “Kwitis” will be heard. And this will be followed by the passing of the Centennial Flame around the academic oval by 100 UP Alumni. After that, will be the UP System President Emerlinda R. Roman’s lighting of the Centennial Cauldron. As she lights the cauldron, the Carillon will be played together with the 100 gun salute that will be fired by the UP Rifle Team.
At exactly 7:00PM, Chancellor Sergio Cao will give his cue for the much awaited “free concert” participated by the UP singing groups, UP Jazz Ensemble and many more. It will be shown till 9:30PM to give way to the half hour long fireworks display.
