The Nation Needs To Stop Evading Race Issues, Says AG Eric Holder

It was not long ago in which Eric Holder would be confirmed by the United States Senate to be the next Attorney General. Holder is also the first black AG of the United States. So far, Holder made an accusation that would echo one of the biggest parts of the 2008 United States Presidential Elections.

One of the biggest parts of the 2008 US Elections was the topic of race. Holder would make a speech to employees at the Justice Department. So far, he seems annoyed that while the workplace is integrated, they segregate on the weekends and off-work hours.

Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” Holder said in his speech.

Holder said if progress is to be made, they would have to be honest with each other. So far, it seems to be well timed since we are still in February. February has been designated as Black History Month. In regards to Black History Month, Holder urged the nation to use this time to discuss racial issues in regards to health, education, and the economy.

He gave the Justice Department employees a new task: Advance racial understanding.

So far, there are those that feel that Holder’s speech may be effective. However, there are others that feel that Holder may anger some people due to some of the words of his speech. Still, they feel that Holder’s speech carries much weight.

In Holder’s words, the nation needs to become more comfortable talking about the issue of race. To sum it all up, Holder said to “stop evading the tough issues of race.” One could simply ask: Is there going to be any political fallout from this? Should that be the case, how much will the fallout be?
