The Nepali samwat (calendar) 1129 started from October 29. The New Year’s, first day was celebrated in the valley with various cultural shows and bike rally. Similarly on Friday, the Maoist-led government announced Nepal Samwat as National calendar. Nepal Samwat was established during the reign of then King Raghav Dev around 1129 years ago in the name of the nation. The story moves around Shankhadhar Sankhwa, a businessman who released the people of Kathmandu from debt and from then the year was started. The Newar community an indeginious group of Nepal strictly follows the Nepali Samwat in accordance to their rituals and festivity where it has its own relevance among their people.
