The pains and Gains of money
By Emmanuel Udom
In writing about the gains and pains of having money, I am going to try as much as possible to be practical, down-to -earth and realistic in my article without necessarily being too technical.
Money is neither good nor bad. It is actually a unit of exchange for goods and services rendered. This is not a dictionary definition of money, but what I think which you, the reader may or may not accept.
How do you see and use money? This is a big question that will determine whether money will serve as your servant or your god. In parts of the world, there are many people that literally worship money.
These persons, driven by greed could do anything, no matter how unethical, criminal or ungodly to get money. Check the nearest prison, police cell or any security detention place around you and you will see what I mean.
To be frank with you, any money gotten through criminal and fraudulent means does not last. This is the reasons armed robbers take the risk of looting banks and carting away money in millions. The robbers may most likely end up in hotel enjoying their loots with women.
Weeks down the line, they are broke and the circle of endless planning and scheming to loot another bank begins. The life of criminals, fraudsters and scammers do not last. They know that one day; nemesis will catch up with them, since they are reaping from where they did not sow.
They could be killed, hanged, jailed and disgraced for life or banished for bringing shame to their family and country. These are some of the pains of desperately looking for money. It is dangerous, and as I say earlier, driven by greed and an insatiable appetite to amass wealth by all means.
Let us look at the other side of the same coin. There are millions of persons out there, who are hardworking and amass their wealth through legitimate, legal and acceptable means. Some of these persons were not born rich. But, through hard work and commitment, they were able to build good fortunes for themselves, their loved ones, their community, state and their country.
I must say these persons are enjoying heaven right here on earth. They are those the Bible describes as the salts of the earth, who are helping humanity with their skills, passions, knowledge, money and experiences.
They may not likely commit suicide, since they have the purpose and mission of helping humanity. They are happier, fulfilled, accomplished, knowing fully well that true and lasting happiness comes from helping people around you.
Money to these persons is regarded as a servant that should be channeled towards assisting humanity. You will agree with me that these are the true gains of money.
