Talk about “just what the doctor ordered.” The healthy cooking web series EpiCURE with Chef MDs just won a prestigious national 2013 Telly Award. In the rare event that you missed it, EpiCURE pairs top docs from George Washington Medical Faculty Associates (GWMFA) with the nation’s top chefs to demonstrate healthy and delicious recipes. The chefs bring the know-how, and the docs make sure the food isn’t just good, but good for you. The spoon that stirs those ingredients, a.k.a “series host,”is On The Marc Media’s own Marc Silverstein, a former Food Network personality. And he gets to eat–a skill he’s spent a lifetime perfecting.
The topics are what really set the popular series apart. Each episode concentrates on a particular medical issue–and demonstrates an easy-to-prepare recipe that’s specially designed for diabetics, heart patients, pregnant women, cancer patients, and people with food allergies. There’s even an episode on healthy aphrodisiacs. Among the celebrity DC area chefs taking part: Patrick O’Connell from the Inn at Little Washington, Robert Wiedmaier of Marcel’s, Bob Kinkead of Ancora, Jeff Tunks with Passion Food Hospitality and Chef Geoff Tracy of Chef Geoff’s. In addition to playing online at www.gwdocs.com, the series runs in patient waiting rooms at GW MFA in downtown Washington, DC, where there are more than a million patient visits a year. An accompanying cookbook can be downloaded for free here.
The Telly honors top cable, film and video productions nationwide. Winners of the fierce competition were selected from out of nearly 11,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries. “We knew we were on to a good thing when the number of cookbooks downloaded topped 1,000. But we never expected to bring home the Telly,” said Silverstein. ”Now that’s icing on the (low fat, low calorie) cake!”
