Chanderpaul bagged the ICC Player of the Year, for his wonderful show with the bat through the year, putting him together with the likes of Rahul Dravid(2004)and Ricky Ponting(2005 and 2006), two of the earlier holders of this prestigious trophy.
He was never on the top of the roster and was not noticed as a great batsmen nor as a player with a great potential. Brain Lara might have quit for West Indies but there are still hopes left with this man.
No one can easily forget the match winning knock he played against Sri lankans earlier this year where he got 10 runs of the last two balls and in which he hit the last ball for six of the Veteran Chaminda Vaas to register a victory for his team lifted the eye brows of many cricket fans and he was in the picture.
He scored 819 runs from 8 tests with an avarage of 91.00 and has three centuries and six half centuries under his belt and also has 598 runs from 13 ODIs at 74.75 average. There is no suprise that he is awarded as the Player of the Year.
Its now time for captains and bowlers to take note of this guy who is moving fast late in his career towards glory.
He is the senior batsman in his team and is shouldering responsibilities and someday when the West Indies again top the ranking and reach the glory which they had in the past, this man’s efforts will also be in that.
One more legend from West Indies to the world cricket.
