The Rajputs built many beautiful temples and Jinalayas (basits)

 The Rajputs led a luxurious life. State income mostly spent on building forts and temples. This provided employment thousands of people.

The temples at Khajuraho including Kandaraya Mahadeva temple were built by the Chandellas. The wonderful Jaina bastis at Mount Abu were built with white marble. Most of their temples are of Shiva and Vishnu. They encouraged sculpture and paintings. Paintings are found on the walls of the temples and also on paper.  The pictures are mostly on the life of Krishna and his friends the Gopis. They also reflect contemporary social life. The architectural achievements of the Rajputs are their magnificent forts at Chitore, Ranathambore Mandu and Gwalior. The Tomaras started building the present Delhi City (Dillika). The palaces of Mansingh at Gwalior, the Ambar palace at Jaipur and the Hawamahal, the palaces at Jodhpur and Udaipur are also famous. But most of them were built during the time of the Mughals.

When the Rajputs ruled in India, there were other Hindu dynasties like the Palas followed by the Seanas in Bengal. Jayadeva composed `Gitagovinda,’ about on lord Krishna in Sanskrit at the Sena court.The Palas patronized Buddhism. The Sun (Surya ) temple at Knark and the famous were constructed by the Eastern Gangas of Kalinga (Orissa).

 In south India the Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas and the Cholas ruled at the same that time.
