The Seven Wonders of the Ancient world remains a magnificent landmarks from the past. Although most of these wonders are already gone, they still remains a part of human history. The Seven wonders of the ancient world are the Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus, the Temple of Diana, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, the Colossus of Rhodes and the Pharos of Alexandria.
The Pyramid in Giza Egypt were built as a burial place for the Kings also called Pharaohs in the ancient Egypt. The Egyptians believe that their king will be resurrected and will back again in the future time. They built the pyramids as a tomb bringing all the treasures of the king inside it.
The Hanging gardens of Babylon was constructed by the mandate of King Nebuchadnezzar. The wife of the king is longing for the beautiful scenery of her native land the reason why the Babylonian king ordered to construct the hanging garden.
The Statue of the Greek god Zeus is among of the ancient wonders of the world. It formerly stood at the temple of Zeus at Olympia Greece. It was created by the Greek sculpture named Phidias and was completed in about 456 B.C. It had the height of about 50 feet, nearly touch the temples ceiling. The statue was said to had been fashioned with different kinds of precious elements.
The temple of the Greek goddess Diana was said to be built in the white marble. It was built in around 4th century B.C and the temple is enriched with gold and silver. There are accounts that said that there are precious gems that were stored in this temple and the temple is full of sculptures mostly created by Praxiteles, considered to be as the greatest sculptures of his time.
The Mausoleum of Halicarnassus is located in the Asia Minor on what is now modern Turkey. It was built for the king Mausolus. This was considered as a beautiful burial place and become the origin of the word mausoleum that means in as a burial place.
The Colossus of Rhodes is a statue of Helios, a pagan son-god. The statue was located in an Island in the Aegean sea, particularly in Rhodes. It towered on its harbor and it depicts the son-god Helios shading his own eyes as he gaze out to the sea. The statue was erected as a kind of thanks giving to their god as they defeated their invaders.
The Pharos of Alexandria was said to be as the forerunner of all the lighthouses. This light house stood in the Island of Pharos near the Place of Alexandria and was made by Sostratus of Cnidus. It stood about 400 feet above the ground.
