Mysore is famous for its hand -woven silk garments and sarees. The quality of silk is good and the prices, competitive. Karnataka’s best known silk weaving centers are Mysore, Bangalore, Kollegal, Chennapatna, Doddaballapur and the silk woven in these centers is a soft, shimmery, sensuous variety. Printed silks and sarees with delicately woven thread and zari (gift thread)work are specialties of Mysore. Also available is Dupon silk, a coarse, even-textured silk, spun from yarn in which a single thread is reeled from, two faculty cocoons.

Here the sandalwood oil is extracted for use in soaps and perfumes and one may see the intricate process of distilling oil from sandalwood. One can also watch the incense sticks being made here.
