Sarawak,Malaysia: Thursday.
The crime rate in Malaysia may be climbing and still there is little sign that it will go down.
However there is another twist to the development. More and more South Americans were being arrested and charged with comitting various crimes as reported.
Among those making up the statistics are; two Colombians arrested in January this year for breaking and entering into a woman Lawyer’s home in Kuala Lumpur.
In another incidents two Peruvians were detained after reports made of their actions. Police managed to retrieve two laptops belonging to a Businessman staying at the same hotel as the two suspects.
What really worries the authorities is the fact that these perpetrators were without valid travel documents when they were arrested.
Some of these South Americans came as tourists and took advantage of their presence to earn extra cash. They came to realise that many Malaysian homes are not well-guarded.
The relative prosperity and peace in the country, however, have made Malaysian house owners taking things for granted. Thus, many homes are not guarded.
For now the crimes comitted seemed to be robberies and break-ins. The Police however, are on the look-out for other connections such as trafficking of woman and drugs.
For now, the connection seemed to be just that; that is theft, robberies and break-ins.
