There has been a continued jihad against corruption, primarily targeted against politicians and businessman. Year 2008 should be a time when the commission extends its reach. There is a saying in Bangla – thhog bachte ga ujar. This is very applicable in case of the current fight against corruption. It is the same reason that government is consciously trying to keep a lid on this effort so that – it does not in fact empty the village. After all, it has to be recognized that corruption is an economy – it can not always be confronted on the legal and moral front. However, we want to emphasize one point here. Among the population, there is a segment of it which has been kept out of the reach of ACC drive. That is professionals. Namely, we would like to emphasize three groups of professionals. University Teachers, Engineers and Journalists. ACC should focus on these three profesional group and among them, it should pick at least 10 big culprits and prosecute. These cases should be treated as symbolic which would work as tonic for others in the profession. Public sentiment er upor vor kore tu onek gula dukaisen. One year has passed – almost. Now is time to show that you have grown some teeth. Its a challenge for you guys in the ACC, show us your teeth. Pick up 30 professionals from these three professional groups. But one specific note: Try to get a arrest warrant when you go to pick them up, if you can. Take some time, make your case and go pick them up. You will do a big service to the nation. If you can really do prosecute 30 such symbolic cases, that will go a long way. Just as an example, following is an editorial from todays press. It gives a good picture of one of the group that we focused on. If you thought some of the ideas are worth of your reading time, please forward it to others. If you have an ear to the columinsts in regular traditional media, please forward it to them. If you have an ear to the journalists and news editors of the electronic media, discuss it with them. Hope they would look at the suggestions and give due diligence.
