The Rajapakses’ remarkable success in hiring the likes of Liam Foxes recently engaged a Subramania Swamy to demonize the UNHRC by using questionable alibis to disabuse the international community’s view that serious genocide crimes were committed by SL. Swamy’s comments in support of the Rajapakses are seriously flawed to require clarification. Swamy apparently coaxed a rated Swapan Das Gupta and a new comer to SL politics to vouch to improvements in the living conditions for Eelam Tamils thus accounting for its crimes to compel the UNHRC to abandon its crime investigations that were crudely obstructed by the Rajapakses. The irony here is that, Swapan’s rosy testimony only required a very brief (two less than days) visit to Jaffna for such a testimony to emerge. However Das Gupta omits to mention about the massive massacres/killings to misrepresent the gravity of the UNHRC charges to be diluted as were those peddled by notorious likeminded (Liam Foxes) apologists.
Hence most recently Abbot the Prime (with a Liam Fox mindset) Minister of Australia pleads that the international community should soften prosecution of the Rajapakses for the killing crimes in view of improvements in the livelihood of the Tamils living in the affected areas as vouched in the Swamy/Swapan testimony. Abbot forgets/forgives that the Rajapakses who face a professionally mandated international (UNHRC) investigation for the killings of hundreds of thousands Tamils in Mullivaykkal and allowing the Rajapakse to actively continue its genocide of the Tamils using military occupation and assault, oppression, and dispossession of the lands of the Tamils to this day. This is key Abbotts’ contribution to fighting a non existing terrorism. The Rajapakses are the least concerned about the gravity of the crimes under UNHRC investigation and sabotaging such investigations by denying visas to the internationally mandated investigators neutralize the objectives for which institutions like the UNHRC were created; ‘end genocide crimes that caused outrageous harm to humanity’.
The Rajapakses were also most successful despite the grave levels of crimes that SL committed to delay start of the investigations by over five years since the end of the war and kill off accountability for the crimes. The Rajapakses were more than successful in preventing leaks of information on the unprecedented scale of killings/massacres by the SL armed forces that prevented the UNHRC from instituting crimes investigations to deter those undertaking these crimes with impunity. The Rajapakses’ readymade mercenary apologists lied effectively when the media examined ‘Who is Mahinda Rajapakse? Hero or war criminal?’ to become Rajapakser’s principal collaborators. On the casualties in the Mulluvaykkal (according to Mahinda Rajapakse to the Independent, UK of 14 November 2013), no killing ever occurred; Rajapakse was confident that SL had cleansed itself of all foreign independent observers in SL to vouch that SL’s hands were clean enough for the media not to debate on SL’s war crimes issue.
However information on SL’s civilian massacres did leak out faster (within hours/days) despite the presence of reputed hired South Block apologists protecting the interests of the Rajapakses. B Raman boasted that he relied on his tom-toming source for information that SL’s massacres were false. For the victims, the SL Tamils, the salvation turned out to the aerial photography from those over flying that area. B Raman’s obsession with debate on information leaks featured in OUTLOOK was to argue that the information on the killings originated from Western sources specifically out to damage the reputation of SL leaders. B Raman’s intent was to deny any killings in Mullivaykkal. Rajapakses’ total denial of killings of any Tamils was based on the information of none other the than reputed Rajapakses’ mercenary apologists like its mercenary a B Raman an ex-Delhi South Block bureaucrat. Unlike today’s Swami, B Raman’s reputation that was by far much better politically, diplomatically and media-wise. Yet though apologists of B Raman’s class were aplenty offering services more for cash than moral or ethical considerations the standing of Swami class apologists hasn’t improved for the better for any reason.
A serious form of leak for the Mullivaykkal massacres was from a Gothabhaya who realized that SL army had in fact committed the massive crimes (civilian casualties in Mullvaykkal and elsewhere) were high enough that it was prudent to involve Sonia/Congress/South Block bureaucrats in the massacres. Hence Gothobhaya’s hastily coined the ‘in the loop trio’ role of Narayanan, Menon and Pranab. They were deputed to act in concert giving the Rajapakses a free hand in the battlefield operations to specifically destroy the Tamil insurgency jointly demonized by Sonia/Rajapakses as ruthless ‘terrorists’. Swapan’s dislike of the Tamil rebel leader is most explicit. In his comments. The Rajapakse apologists accordingly are never tired of identifying themselves with destroying the ‘terrorists’ that was easily acceptable to the public during the George Bush era. For Gothabhaya linking the South Block trio in destroying the terrorists relying on the aerial visuals suggested that the high casualties in Kilinochchi, Mullivaykkal and others became the subject of subsequent media scrutiny. The Channel 4’s master piece debunked the shallow tactics that the Rajapakses still use. The tactics were totally inadequate to shield the Rajapakses from linking their involvement in the massacre crimes. Hence an alarmed Gothybhaya’s hurriedly rushed out with his partial alibi bringing in the South Blockers ‘… in the loop trio’s association in the killings. That was meant to ensnare the South Block trio into the war crimes quagmire.
To protect itself the South Block Delhi apologists responded with a strategic and sudden shift in Delhi’s Indo-SL relations detaching from its neutral stance to one of over-appeasing the SL Rajapakses. Though in the entire UPA period the Indian public was kept in the dark about the South Blocker’s role in the SL there were several independent observers including Paswan (a non Tamil) of the Lok Janshakthi Party horrified over Mullivaykkal openly supported the creation of Tamil Eelam..in May 2009…suggesting.. temporary structures in the Marina in memory of the people killed..’
When the Tamils were driven into Narayanan’s narrow ‘no fire zone’ enclaves their survival was feasible when the victor observed accepted war rules to undertake genuine rescue actions. Though there were several Rajapakses/South Blockers ceasefires with the LTTE none of the participants canvassed for an orderly ICRC evacuation of entrapped civilians and others; both the fighters and the unarmed civilians. Delhi Sonia UPA officially frequently claimed to be striving to act to minimize civilian casualties but that was not to be when the South Blockers hastily rallied to support the Rajapakses…Delhi’s MEA, RAW and the Sonia Congress spokes persons were keen on burying the Rajapakses’ crimes… in callous disregard of the merits/morality of Delhi’s stance. This amounted to sabotaging the work of UNHRC to get SL accountable for the crimes that the international community over the years was committed to hold the SL criminals accountable for sabotaging UNHRC’s efforts.
Once the UNHRC initiated measures to investigate SL’s culpability for the human rights crimes the Rajapakse not merely ignored the UNHRC actions but until 2013 pressured the Sonia/UPA cabal to extend support to SL’s moves to sabotage the UNHRC work. When by the end of 2013 Delhi politics pointed to an imminent end of the Sonia/UPA rule and with its appeasement policies, Rajapakse in earnest sought to woo the BJP/NDA expecting UPA’s (Delhi’s) tainted policies to end MEA South Block constraints sabotaging the UNHRC’s war crimes initiatives. Modi/NDA stance thus is positioning itself to contribute to the possible success for UNHRC war crimes initiatives and saving any more Tamils being consumed in SL’s continuing genocide.
The Rajapakses who successfully obstructed the UNHRC’s initiatives to ensure the irreversible success of the SL genocide the Rajapakses recruited the likes of Subramania Swamy to gain time space to completely wipe out all traces of Tamils ever living or contributing to SL historically. Five years passed for the efforts of the international community and the UNHRC were lost in fruitless debate that involved SL’s hired apologists. The Rajapakses detest that the UNHRC is incorruptible that a Subramania Swamy is eminently qualified to delay the war crimes initiative of the UNHRC for the Rajapakse genocide to continue uninterrupted whatever the costs be to humanity at large.
Though much time was lost (about five years) there are sufficient details on the SL crimes in the numerous human rights reports to corroborate with whatever findings the UNHRC investigators are able to gather from eye witnesses though facing frightening threats these witnesses who volunteer to face the UNHRC investigators . The Rajapakses widely known acts to sabotage the work of the UNHRC investigators is known is also actionable under further UNHRC actions. Subramanian Swami/Swapan information are silent on this count for the Rajapakses to benefit much the evidence that the investigators gather during the current UNHRC investigations will be most useful to establish SL’s accountability. The media reporting on the continuing abductions, missing parsons, killing and land grabbings will still be subjected to UNHRC action whatever claims that Subramania Swamy/Swapams continue to make. The strange position that Swamy takes to further the interest of the Rajapakses and Sonia UPA is not that Modi/NDA. The position was clarified by Modi/NDA during the meeting that TNA had in Delhi not long ago.
The impact of the work of Subramania Swamy/Swapan on the Tamil trauma cannot continue in this form for long especially when the beneficiaries are Sonia/South Blockers and Raja;akses themselves. This form of reconciliation involving a stance to soften UNHRC’s crimes initiative is unlikely to upstage Modi/NDA internationally. When properly analysed the Sonia/UPA’s appeasement support for SL has scam implications that Mode/NDA should have no qualms in investigating and holding those accountable for them as well. Despite whatever be the rambles of Subramania crowd recently Modi/NDA are moving to dissociate the NDA Delhi from Sonia/UPA mercenary dealings and the correct course for scandalous record of the Sonia/UPS/ South Blockers has to be erased totally in the India’s texts on world affairs and history.
