Jammu and Kashmir: Usually, it requires two to tango but when it becomes affair of three it turns risky. Same hold good with politics and politicians of Jammu and Kashmir on Indian side. Coalition government headed by National Conference in absence of principal opposition Peoples Democratic Party and Bhartiya Janata Party did not hesitate in taking it up with coalition partner Congress. Vote politics is main agenda and modus operandi traditional. But with the women empowerment in country after unprecedented brutal gang rapes were reported which brought revolution after 1947, politicians have broadened the scope of empowerment in a different style.
In this connection, Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) marched a protest rally against the suspension of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, Mr Jugal Kishore Sharma by speakers for exhibiting allegedly aggression upon a woman legislature and minister for social welfare. Activists of BJYM including men, women and youth were shouting slogans like Bham Bham Bholay and NC-Congress hai hai. Transport was halted for several hours near BJP headquarter, Kachi Chawani, for commoners to face the ire.
The interested part of the story was that NC MLA, Ms Bimla Luthra along with her other three women workers were thrashed and threatened while on her way to NC party office, eye witness said adding that one of women worker of NC used abused language and slapped a woman constable on duty. Anyhow, Superintend of Police Mr J S Johar along with Inspector Ms Shakti Sharma managed to save Ms Luthra by guarding her away from the venue, they added.
Meanwhile, Ms Bimala reported the situation to speaker in the assembly, who assured her action against the guilty as per the law. It has not been ascertained as to what lead the NC women workers to reach the spot, was the presence of women workers as per design or they were on their way to party office. Women workers of BJP even embarrassed NC women workers by saying that they were supporting traitors of Jammu (NC-Cong) and not to sons of soil, the eye witness narrated.
It is important to mention that assembly proceedings are being carried out smoothly by coalition political parties in the absence of entire opposition namely PDP, JKNPP and BJP. “If coalition partners can run government for the last four years smoothly why they cannot run assembly and council smoothly without opposition” one of the senior politicians and legislature said on the conditions of anonymity. Meanwhile, well informed sources said that discussion over inviting back to opposition parties is being done and hopefully correspondence in this regard would start in a day or so.
Visualizing their worth without ministry, Minister for Higher Education Mr M Akbar Lone and Minister for Irrigation Mr Sham Lal Sharma were witnessed sharing smiles to each other today, as last day both the ministers stole headlines for taking on each other for parting away to break the coalition. Chief Minister’s uncle and senior NC leader Mr. Mustafa Kamal while talking to reporters outside assembly revealed bitter reality by saying that these ministers are killing time by subscribing such unrealistic statements as high commands of both the parties (Congress-NC) have signed a unbreakable pact on the day of formation of government four years ago. He, however, said that quarrel worth to watch between NC-Congress will happen only during 2014, (perhaps in elections).
