The Chairman of the Electoral Commision in Ghana will announce the winner of the presidential run-off at 11am GMT, barring any unforeseen developments.
The results of the last constituency has come out. As expected, the candidate of the NDC Prof John Evans Atta Mills won with 19566 votes. The NPP which asked its supporters to boycot the elections in the constituency had 2035 votes.
This gives the NDC 50.23% of valid votes and the NPP 49.77%.
There have been very unpleasant events these few days as a result of the closeness of the race. On January 1, the NPP tried to put an injunction on the EC to prevent it from declaring the winner of the elections. This attempt which was not successful frowned upon by many people including some leading members of the NPP.
The President has also indicate his readiness to handover as required by the Constitution on January 7. It has been reported that the NPP will withdraw all cases filed against the EC today. But we are not sure if they will continue the legal battle which is doing a lot of damage to the image of the party later.
