There’s a Crux Drawing Me Back Here

Poetry From The Heart

The log farmhouse in the woods
creates memories of times long erased
sit here search for copses of the past.
I suck sweetness from watermelon slices
try to cleanse the bad taste left in my mouth
clinging inside like scabs on a dog’s back.

There’s a crux drawing me back here
unfinished business to shake off and forget
a haunting spirit within pokes my core
what was left here must be contented.
Nightmares lure me to come back home
wait for satisfaction to erase the culprit.

The house’s empty, forlorn and forgotten
a shell remains like a forgotten carcass.
Linoleum floors curled back like paper rolls
a smell of wood permeates from years of use.
Desolate and no likelihoods of a returned future
ghosts and animals left to roam its halls.

The log farmhouse in the woods…
bothers my soul as it cries for help
I spit black watermelon seeds to the ground
stomp them into the earth’s soil to bury them
hold unto the moments refusing to forget
love, kindness and bonding shared in the dwelling…

I’ll forever love the log farmhouse in the woods.
