Popularly known as the World City of Asia, Hong Kong has become one of the most multicultural and diverse cities of the world. It is much more than just a harbour city and is a Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China.
Relocating to any city abroad comes with some attached advantages as well some disadvantages. Thankfully with Hong Kong, the good things successfully outweigh the bad ones. And it’s quite similar in case you are moving along with your pet to Hong Kong. There are some regulations that a person and his/her pet have to go through while moving pets to Hong Kong from a Group One or Group Two country.
There is no need of quarantine for pets travelling from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Guam. Also, there is no requirement for quarantine for pets being imported from some other countries, including the USA, if the conditions related to the age, vaccinations and their health condition are met. These countries include: Austria, Bahamas, Bahrain, Belgium, Bermuda, Brunei, Canada, Cayman Island, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Guam, Iceland, Italy, Jamaica, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Netherlands, Norway, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United States (continental), Vanuatu and the Virgin Islands.
There are some other rules that are to be followed while importing your pet to Hong Kong.
- It requires a 9 digit micro-chip and will now accept only 15 digit one.
- Pets (dogs and cats) can only be brought after a special permit from the Hong Kong government. You can find the complete list of paperwork HERE.

- You should carry with yourself the forms issued by the governing authority for export and import of pets, from your country.
- A copy of the rabies certificate should also be carried.
After moving successfully to the diverse state of Hong Kong and getting settled with time with your pets, taking good care of your companion is another crucial step. This becomes all the more important as you have moved to a new place.
