The McCain campaign is out of control. The misrepresentations — no, lets call it what it is — the lies, particularly about Sarah Palin, have to stop. It is now so apparent to anyone with a brain that the McCain people never vetted this woman, and that this choice was so absurd and insulting to the American people, that it amazes me that she hasn’t found a justifiable reason to drop out of the race before we learn even more about her.
I just read a story on CNN.com that the McCain campaign has admitted that Sarah’s much trumpeted trip to Germany, Kuwait and Iraq, and her side trip to Ireland, was not exactly what had been claimed. It turns out she never went to Iraq. she stayed across the border, safely in Kuwait. Her "trip’ to Ireland was a refueling stop on the way home. By the way, her trip to Mexico, which she cites as an example of her foreign travel and foreign policy experience, was a family vacation.
So, now we know the truth about her trips, the supposed e-Bay sale of the state jet, the firing of the Governor’s chef, the Bridge to Nowhere, the hundreds of millions in earmarks, the city manager she had to hire to run Wasilla, her relationship with the Alaska secessionist group, her belief that living within sight of Russia gives her foreign policy expertise, her belief that abstinence should be taught in the schools, even though she obviously didn’t teach it at home to Bristol, etc., etc., etc. I could go on for hours, but we have all heard it. The question is, who, if anyone, is listening? Can the American people be so blind, or so deaf, or dare I say it…so stupid, that they cannot see this woman is barely qualified to be Mayor of Wasilla, never mind Vice President, or God forbid, President of the most powerful country on the face of this planet.
I am not arguing qualifications here. We have had some damn good Presidents who were arguably not qualified for the office when they attained it – who had never had "executive experience." If that’s what the Republicans are looking for, by the way, they don’t have it in McCain either. I want a President – and/or a V.P – who is educated, well read, highly intelligent, and who has a level of sophistication that come from travel, legislative experience, and life experiences of the kind that mold people. Sarah Palin has none of that in her resume. John McCain fits some of those criteria, but I fear he is just not that bright, and we need bright – we desperately, after 8 years of GWB, need bright. Would I be happier if Obama had a little more experience under his belt? Yes, but I have supreme confidence in his incredible intelligence and am sure that he will be able to utilize the experience of the experts he will appoint as his advisors. I have confidence that he will pick good people. He proved that with his choice of Joe Biden. McCain has proven exactly the opposite by choosing Sarah Palin. He is an impetuous political animal who will do whatever is necessary to win, and will worry about the consequences later. As a President, that is a character trait that may lead America, if not the human race, to an ignominious end.
