This Kerala village has a unique eye

Cherukulathoor village of Peruvayal panchayath in Kozhikode will be unique not only in the case ofdonating eyes but also other vital organs after death. All the inhabitants here are getting ready to donate their organs after death. This village has already been cited as complete eye donating village.

All the villagers have signed their consent for donating their eyes after death.  The village was given the title ‘Sampoorna nethradhana gramam’ by the Malayalam laurite  M.T. Vasudevan Nair.

By now about 40 persons have donated their eyes.  The entire initiative to immortalize the eyes of the villagers is taken by a library in this village – K.P. Govindankutty Library.

The panchayath pledged to be a complete eye donating village in the year 2003, with the consent of 1500 persons. The pledge was materialized within hours. The eyes of the woman who died the same day was implanted to another woman in Balussery.  The library is now in an effort to make people donate their other organs too.
