Samba/Jammu,June 28 (Scoop News) – Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia today inaugurated the historic annual Chamliyal Mela at the centuries old shrine of Baba Chamliyal near International Border in Ramgarh sector of district Samba.
Thousand of devotees from across the state and outside thronged this highly revered shrine to seek blessings and cure for physical and spiritual ailments. The followers of this sacred place on other side of the border also came and collected the ‘shakkar’and ‘sharbat from the premises believed to be panacea for all skin ailments.
To have a glimpse of the ritual of handing over of a ‘chaddar’ of flowers to the BSF officers by the Pakistani Rangers for being laid on the Dargah of Baba Chamliyal, thousands of devotees stood on both sides of the border. The local administration and BSF handed over the ‘shakkar ‘and ‘sharbat to thousands of devotees who eagerly wait for the same on the other side of the border.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that such religious occasions play a vital role in cementing the bonds of love, compassion and brotherhood among different sections of the society besides inspiring the people to adopt spirituality in their lives. “Such religious events have greater relevance in present era when the man is lurching in a perplexing imbroglio of chaos and confusion”, he maintained. He complemented the devotees and expressed optimism that they will contribute in further maintaining peace and brotherhood in the subcontinent.
The District administration had made elaborate arrangements for the transportation of the local devotees to the shrine, besides providing civic amenities and other facilities at the festival site. Besides, different departments established their stalls for showcasing the exhibits of their respective units like handicrafts, handloom, horticulture, fisheries etc.
On the occasion, a flag meeting with Pakistani Rangers was also organized by the BSF at the International Border which was attended by DIG, BSF, Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Senior Superintendent of Police, besides the Senior Officers. On the occasion, the Sweets were also exchanged to mark annual celebration of Baba Chamliyal Mela.
Later, the Minister convened a public meeting at Bari-Brahmana and took stock of problems and demands of the people who thronged here in large number from various villages and border areas.
The Minister inaugurated a Rs.75 lakh tubewell at Kargal, Bari-Brahmana which has discharge capacity of 4000 gallons per hours. The tubewell will supply water to various villages including Meen, Makorewali, Pathwal and Dassal. He also inaugurated lanes and drains constructed with a cost of Rs.6.5 lakh at Kargal besides inaugurating Rs.5 lakh Patwarkhana and Meen Sarkar, Barjani.
Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh and other senior officers of district administration accompanied the Minister.
