Threat letter suspect still eludes arrest

The main suspect behind the dispatch of threat letters to Team India captain M S Dhoni’s family is
eluding arrest a week after police claimed that they had identified the person.

Extortion letters to Dhoni’s family had demanded Rs 50 lakh and a person named Taslim is suspected to be the sender of the letters.

“The matter is under investigation. There is no FIR nor any arrest,” senior Superintendent of Police Sampat Meena told PTI when asked whether there was any headway into the case.

Ever since Meena had on December 31 told the media that preliminary probe had found that it was the handiwork of Taslim, an alleged criminal facing extortion charges in Ranchi, the police picked up three persons for questioning and let them off last week.

Dhoni’s family has been given adequate security and house guards have been manning their house round the clock, he said.

The residence of at least two senior IPS officers are situated a stone’s throw away from Dhoni’s house.

Meanwhile, disappointed at the failure to apprehend the sender of the extortion letters, the Dhoni Fans Club here today urged the police to file an FIR against unknown persons.

“We have submitted an application to Doranda police station stating that it be treated as an FIR against unknown person,” club president Jitender Singh, who had earlier mooted a plan to build a  temple for Dhoni, told reporters here.

“We have got a copy of receipt from the police station,” he said.
