Leh, January 11, (Scoop News)-The Under-20 Inter Club Ice Hockey Cup was lifted by Tip-Top Sporting Club defeating Lalok team by 7 to 1 goals at Ice Hockey Rink Karzoo, Leh today. Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh Dr. Sunil Gupta was the chief guest.
The tournaments which kick started from 7th January 2014, saw participation from a total of 8 teams and were organized by Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh. The final match today began with the throwing of the puck in the rink by the chief guest. In his address for the occasion, SSP Gupta appreciated the participation of every player and encouraged them to make their region and nation proud.
For the first time, the Ladakh Winter Sports Club gave away cash prizes of Rs. 6,000 to the runners-up team and Rs. 10,000 to the winning team to encourage the players. The chief guest also distributed prizes to the participants and winners of the kids’ race of basic 200 meters, intermediate 200 meters, advance 500 meters and figure-skating categories.
A large number of winter sports lovers witnessed the adventurous match with great enthusiasm braving the biting cold which was made more pleasant by beautiful commentary.
Talking to media persons, Mr. P.T. Kunzang, Advisor, Ladakh Winter Sports Club, Leh, said, “Ladakh Winter Sporting Club, in association with the Ice Hockey Association of India, is organizing the national level tournaments of senior men’s and women’s teams starting 12thJanuary, 2014 in which teams from Maharashtra and Haryana will participate for the first time. Besides, tournaments like Chief Executive Councillors’ Cup, the friendly Indo-Canadian Friendship Cup will also be conducted in the following weeks.” Besides the tournaments, coaching camps for kids are also being conducted.
