Camping is a great outdoor activity for the whole family. You will need to plan ways to keep your children occupied and entertained during the camping trip though. There are many different things to choose from to accomplish this. Let’s go over a few.
• Bring the marsh mellows: Almost every child loves to eat marsh mellows. If this is the case with your children, then they will love them even more after roasting them over an open fire. This is also a great opportunity to teach them about fire safety while camping.
• Swimming: Pick a camping site that offers swimming near by. A lot of camp areas at parks allow swimming in the rivers and streams. Some even have beaches designated for swimmers. Just be sure and check the guidelines.
• Fishing: Teaching your children to fish can be fun. Get them their own little poles and have at it. The boys, and some of the girls, will even enjoy playing with the worms! If you catch any fish you can then show the kid’s how to clean and fry them over the fire.
• Build a snowman: If you are camping in the winter and have enough snow, you can let the kid’s build a snowman. This is always a fun thing for children, and will keep them busy and happy for a while.
• Hiking: Go camping at places that have hiking trails near. Taking your children hiking is a great way to get in some exercise while camping.
• Photography: There are many inexpensive cameras out today. Get the kid’s their own camera and let them take it on the hikes. They can make pictures of flowers and animals they might see on the hike, and then when they get home they can try to find information about the items in the pictures. Children will also just enjoy making pictures of the family, bugs, and anything else to do with the camping trip.
• Star gazing: During the planning of the camping trip, go to the library and check out books about constellations, or help your children look the information up online. Then, when you are actually camping the kid’s can try and pick out the constellations they have been studying about. This will help the kid’s relax and settle down for the night also.
As you can see, there are many different ways to help your children enjoy the camping trip. With a little planning and some creativity, the whole family will remember the camping trip fondly. If you find interesting things for them to do they will want to go camping often, and you will have many memories to enjoy.
