Top Expatriate Billionaires overtake Native British Billionaires

When it comes to the question of creating and retaining wealth, Asian Billioners appear to have an edge over the Native Britains. This point is amply proved by the findings of a study conducted by ‘Sunday Times’ which features the ‘Rich List’. These findings are considered as the most authentic guide to the country’s super rich.

The Indian born Mr.Lakshmi Mittal tops the list for a consecutive fourth year. With a personal fortune estimated at 27.7 billion pounds, his personal net worth is reported to have gone up by 8 billion pounds in the last one year alone. While top ten richest billioners are Asians, only eight richest Britons figure in the top twenty list. The Russian born Oil Baron, Mr.Roman Abromovich takes the second slot with an estimated net worth of 11.7 billion pounds, while the third slot is taken by Duke of Westminister with 7 billion. Incidentally, Mr.Roman is also the owner of Chelsea Football Club. Other Richest Asians include Swraj Paul, the Hinduja Brothers, Naresh Goyal of Jet Airways, though all of them are way behind  Lakshmi Mittal.

One person whose personal fortune took a plunge last year is Mr.Richard Branson. His wealth declined by 400 million pounds as a result of which he has been pushed to the bottom most in the list, i.e. 20th position, from 11th in the last year.

The study reports that the friendly policies of Labor Government has all along been conducive to wealth creation for the super rich. To support this the paper quotes that the wealth of 1000 richest Britains have jumped from 99 billion pounds in 1997 to 412 billion in 2008.

The study concludes with the noting of Mr.Philip Beresford who compiled the list that ‘having a friendly Labor Government has been better than having a Tory one’ because of the reason that it has neutral politicians on the left.
