Who doesn’t want to be able to drive their own car? It can be incredibly frustrating to rely on someone else to take you places or get a cab every time, especially when you have a car or can afford one. Obviously, you want to get your driving license, but how do you go about getting it? Fortunately, the process is quite straightforward as long as you know what you are doing. Listed below are the top steps that can get you a driving license and let you get in the driver’s seat finally:
Step 1: Enroll in a driver’s Ed course
This course basically serves as the foundation of your driver training. You get the knowledge required for sitting behind the wheel and you have to be at least 15 to enroll in it. You can take it online these days, which is much more convenient than having to sit in a classroom. Don’t forget to get the Certificate of completion because you are going to need it.
Step 2: Complete your behind-the-wheel training
Taking behind-the-wheel training is the next step to getting your driving license. This is the practical aspect of your driver’s training and there is a minimum amount of hours to complete with a driving instructor. Be attentive and listen to your instructor as the guidance they provide is invaluable.
Step 3: Obtain your learner’s permit
After completing the two steps outlined above, you are ready to apply for your learner’s permit. You have to clear a vision and knowledge test to do that. Check the DMV locations and find the one nearest to you. Fill out the form, provide the necessary documents like birth certificate, proof of citizenship, social security number, certification of completion mentioned above and your behind-the-wheel completion form.
Step 4: Get as much practice as possible
When you have your permit, now you can start driving the car with a supervising adult such as parent. In some states, there is a fixed number of practice hours you have to log in before you can get your driver’s license. However, you should make it your aim to go beyond the limit as it works in your favor.
Step 5: Apply for your driver’s license
This is the final step you have to complete, but you cannot get your license unless you clear a driving test. Unlike the permit, this test is a practical one and you have to remember the rules of the road. It can be a nerve-wracking experience for most, but you should learn to stay calm as this will let you think more clearly and you can avoid any major mistakes. Take your paperwork along because you will need it for applying for the license if you clear the test. This includes your driver’s ed certificate, behind-the-wheel certificate, learner’s permit signed by a parent, vehicle registration number, social security number, proof of insurance, your ID and birth certificate.
You will now be a licensed driver and can roam the roads freely.
