Toyota is recalling an estimated 1,700,000 vehicles worldwide for defects, including 19,000 vehicles in the UK due to fuel problems and 245,000 Lexus IS and GS vehicles in the United States.
Reliability issues have been a major problem for Toyota recently as recalls reach record numbers and a government investigation and related lawsuits into unintended acceleration hit the company’s stock price.
According to the Lexus Website, there are no indicators that fuel leakage will occur within the Lexus models however customers should look out for fuel odour coming from the engine compartment as this is a likely indicator that fuel is leaking from the fuel pressure sensor.
Lexus Owners in the United States can contact the company on 1-800-255-3987 with any concerns they have.
In the UK Toyota is focusing on both the Lexus IS 250 models and the Toyota Avenis line.
Roughly just over 3,000 UK registered IS 250 engines purchased between August 2007 and February 2009 and 15,000 people who own either a 2.0 or 2.4 litre model, purchased between July 2000 and September 2008, will be affected. Owners will receive letters informing customers to arrange repairs.
Drivers of these vehicles are encouraged to put the car forward for repair, and to contact the manufacturer regarding costing claims.
According to Confused.com, Toyota is currently working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) within the UK to contact and advise owners of the procedures and paperwork required in order to get the necessary work done.
