Traffic restrictions on Srinagar-Jammu Highway

 

 

Srinagar, January 31 (Scoop News) – Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon has directed the field officers to take all possible measures to ensure minimum disruption of services and keep their men and machinery including joint snow control rooms in a state of readiness to meet any eventuality, due to expected snowfall from 3rd February to 7th February

 

 

 

It is pertinent to mention that in view of forecast of an approaching western disturbance, there is possibility of snowfall at many places in the Kashmir Division, with main activity expected on 4th and 5th February.  Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to rather heavy rain/snowfall is expected to occur at most places along Banihal axis and Pirpanjal ranges of the State.  Moderate snowfall is also likely in Ladakh region. There is a possibility that the surface and air transport may also be affected.

 

 

Instructions were given by Div Com to all Deputy Commissioners, Chief Engineers and Heads of Department not to leave their headquarters and take stock of the situation.

 

 

Inspector General of Police, Traffic has been requested to monitor the weather situation and in case of adverse weather the movement of traffic on Srinagar-Jammu NHW should be restricted on 4th and 5th Feb so that no vehicles get stranded on the highway. Director CAPD Kashmir has been directed to ensure that there should be no shortage of essential commodities especially LPG.

 

 

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Dr Asgar also held a video conference with all Deputy Commissioners of the Valley and directed them to ensure appropriate arrangements for ensuing Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW). The Video conference was attended by Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Baseer Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Muhammed Rafi, Deputy Commissioner Kupwara Muhammed Shafi, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Syed Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmed Lone, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal  Muhammed Haroon, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Farooq Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Shafat Noor Barlas, Deputy Commissioner Shopian Dr Muhammed Sharief Sood and other senior district officers.

Div Com directed that adequate number of public transport including SRTC buses should be deployed for ferrying the pilgrims to and from Hazratbal and other important shrines. He gave directions to Chief Engineer EM&RE Muhammed Muzaffar Mattu to ensure uninterrupted power supply at the shrines during the period.

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Baseer Ahmed Khan took stock of the arrangements made at Hazratbal, in connection with Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW) in view of expected snowfall. It was directed that one snow clearance machine will be exclusively placed at Hazratbal for snow clearance.
