A transport crisis has hit Kampala after Police embarked on cracking down on vehicles in dangerous mechanical condition and minibus drivers who don’t have driving licenses. The crack down has so far seen 800 taxis impounded by police causing a shortage of transport in the city and forcing people to walk back home from work and school.
The crackdown was started as a result of the recent accidents in the country that have claimed a number of lives. The latest was a bus that was involved in an accident and caught fire and more than 25 people are said to have died. The Police have said that unlike before this crack down is going to be continuous in order to rid the city of vehicles in bad mechanical condition.
