Trend In Suicides Gives Japan A New Feel Of Notoriety

As of right now, Japan may have something new to be famous for. It is not really famous. This is more of a type of notoriety. In this respect, Japan has gained an interesting level of notoriety. This notoriety is in regards to the suicide rate. So far, professionals in their thirties across Japan have taken their lives at an enormous rate.

In 2007, a little over 30,000 people have committed suicide. This year, the number has increased by almost three percent. More men than women have resorted to suicide. Suicides amongst men constitute to almost 75 percent of all suicide rates in the country.

On another interesting note, most have taken place around the Yamanashi prefecture. This seems to be the place that is booming with all sorts of people wanting to end their lives.

So far, it is suspected that depression on the job is the attributing factor to the suicide rate. Economist and social analyst, Mika Tsutsumi, used the recent stabbing at Akihabara as an example. She said that the alleged stabber was depressed at the workplace.

In a nutshell, Japan has been experiencing a new trend of suicides. Maybe this could set off a possible wake-up call to corporate Japan. In most cases, people work for low wages and long hours. At the same time, it is hard to climb up the corporate ladder. For the most part, it is understandable on why there is depression in the work place.
