Samba,October 27, (Scoop News)- To pay homage to Brigadier Rajinder Singh Mahavir Chakra on his 67th Martyrs Day, a function was organized at his native village Bagoona (Rajinder Pura) by Brigadier Rajinder Singh Memorial committee in collaboration with district administration and Army today.
On the occasion, District Development Commissioner, Samba, Mubarak Singh, ACR M Y Malik and SDM Vijaypur Sonu pargal offered wreaths to martyrs’ statue. Urvashi Pathania and Usha Parmar daughters of late Brigadier Rajinder Singh, were also present on the occasion. A colourful cultural programme based on patriotism and depicting valour and bravery of soldiers was also presented by the school children.
A large number of people of village Rajinder singh Pura , adjoining Villages and School children attended the function. Paying tributes to Singh, DDC lauded Brigadier Rajinder Singh for his supreme sacrifice for the motherland while fighting against Pakistani invaders at Buniyar.
The DDC said that we are proud that such a great warrior was born in our state. He exhorted upon the youth to follow his footsteps with a pledge to safeguard and serve the Nation. He said that by saving Kashmir and earned the title of “Saviour of Kashmir”. Brigadier Rajinder Singh was conferred Mahavir Chakra, the first gallantry award of Independent India for his supreme sacrifice and conspicuous bravery, he added.
DDC said that Samba district has the pride of having great soldiers who by the dint of their bravery got numerous gallantry awards including Param vir chakra, Mahavir Chakra, Shourya Chakra and Kriti Chakra. He impressed upon the youth to take inspiration from those great sons of the soil. Brig. S. S Sambyal( Retd.) , Yograj Singh Conservator Retd.,Capt. Inder Singh, Capt Hawant Singh, Brij Paul Singh Sarpanch, Sarpanchs and Panchs of the area also paid tributes to the Brigadier Rajinder Singh.
