Kargil, July 25 (Scoop News) – To commemorate the victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistani misadventure in Kargil War and pay homage to those who laid down their life, Thirteenth Anniversary celebrations of ‘Operation Vijay Diwas’ commenced on 25 July at Dras under aegis of ‘Forever in Operations’ Division. The event is celebrated as an effort to express the nation’s gratitude to the martyrs and honour the family members of those who suffered irreparable loss while serving the nation. Kargil conflict nation was a sad but decisive part of India’s victory which reiterated the conviction and commitment of Indian Army in safeguarding the mother land from any external aggression with malicious intent.
The celebrations were unfurled at Dras Garrison, with the hosting of national flag by NFF at Kargil war memorial. The officers and men, who fought the war and engraved their contribution in history became nostalgic and recounted their first hand experiences with those in attendance. This was followed up by a motor –cycle display at old Dras. The next in series of events was a friendly Polo Match, played by the teams of Ladakh Scouts Regimental Centre and Ladakh Locals at Vishwanathan Stadium, Dras. The match was keenly contested by both teams with a fair share of excitement and anxiety. The match was witnessed with great zeal and all players were complimented for their skills and sportsmen spirit. The first half of opening day culminated in a traditional Barakhana organised under aegis of Army for the Veer Naris, next of kin of martyrs and the gallantry award winners.
In evening, the cultural bouquet was in limelight with a wide spectrum of colorful and vibrant entertainment program by a mix of talented local artists. The highlight of the festivities was kachhipudi recital by Mrs Jindal w/o of Naveen Jindal followed by a musical stage show by the famous Shankar- Ehsan- Loy group that enthralled the audience to no ends. The artists with the intensity of their performance cast such magic spell that the audience was left in trance. The evening was made lively and most memorable with the variety, gaiety and energy of the artists.
