It was recently discovered that three planets close to Earth’s size in mass have been discovered orbiting one star. It is not that hard to put two and two together and say that the star is acting as the sun for those three planets. The discovery of the trinity of planets has been discovered by European scientists in Chile.
This further shows that there are planets everywhere. Yes, there are all sorts of new planets being discovered. Everywhere one would look to; there is a new planet or two being discovered. They are considered to be “super-Earths” due to the size and mass. These new planets are much larger than planet Earth.
When you take the size and mass of Earth and quadruple it, you will get the size and mass of the smallest of the three planets orbiting around that star. However, they are smaller than planets: Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune.
For those hoping for interplanetary colonization, don’t give your hopes up so soon. While it is exciting to discover new planets larger than the size of Earth, it does not mean they can support and sustain life.
Swiss astronomer Didier Queloz explains that the three planets are too hot to support life.
Sorry to burst your bubbles, guys…
But it does not mean they are the last three planets. There are new planets constantly being discovered. Astronomers say that planets can be discovered everywhere. Maybe there might be a newly discovered planet or two that could sustain life.
If and when that is the case, then there’s the aspect of space travel.
On a personal note, it makes me wonder on what interplanetary travel will be like if and when it is possible.
