Fars news is reporting that Colonel Mohammed al-Suissi, chief of police in Tripoli, was gunned down by unidentified masked gunmen in the Libyan capital’s Eastern suburbs on Tuesday, a security source said.
“Colonel al-Suissi was assassinated by a group of unknown hooded, armed people. Two men with him were kidnapped in the attack,” said the source, who asked not to be named, AFP reported.
Suissi had taken part in a meeting of Tajura municipal council in the Eastern suburbs and was on his way back to Tripoli city center when the attack took place, according to an unnamed source.
State news agency Lana confirmed the assassination and said Colonel Suissi died shortly after arrival at a nearby clinic of wounds suffered in the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Police are routinely targeted by rival militias.

In addition there have been long standing allegations of corruption and abuse within the police department following the American led NATO military intervention in 2011, that allowed a terrorist takeover of the entire country!
Although the rationale of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for entry into Libyan conflict invoked humanitarian principles, the results have proven far from humane. In fact war crimes were committed but censored and never investigated.

Following the invasion Libyan rebels backed by the Obama administration and NATO governments committed a wide range of brutal and senseless war crimes, including, in one case, summarily executing and torturing dozens of prisoners of war, in violation of international laws ( considered a war crime) possibly including strongman Muammar Gadhafi and his son, according to the non-profit group Human Rights Watch.
These and other crimes were never investigated.
Since then Libya has been a failed nation state – and safe haven of terrorists from all over the world, including al-Qaeda linked militants?
