Do you have the habit of turning off the lights in your room when you are not working in there anymore? Or do you have energy-efficient light-bulbs installed instead of the cheaper but less efficient ones? In Hong Kong, it seems that shops in Causeway Bay, Mong Kok and Kwai Chung, where visitors or tourists like visiting and do some shopping, are inefficient in using the spotlights.
The study was conducted by the group Green Sense and has found out that less than 10% of the shops located in these busy areas install energy-efficient light bulbs. About 20 spotlights are being used, on average, in every shop. Since they are located inside a mall, the heat emanated by these spotlights will heat up the mall, and as a resolution, the air conditioners inside the mall will be turned cooler to make customers feel comfortable. It all just seemed to be a harmful cycle, bring bad effect to the earth, which has already be heating up by other sources.
Although switching to energy-efficient light bulbs may cause several thousand dollars, don’t forget that they are long-lasting. Also, when the quantity of light bulbs is decreased, then the bill that shop owners have to pay will stipulate a lower amount of money. And within two years, that amount of ‘overpaid’ money can be earned and from than on, you can earn even more!
This is an alarm to the shop owners and the government, which showed that more hard works and plans have to be endeavored and performed in order to meet the requirements of the proposed plans and contribute to the world a bluer sky and fresher air.
