The Nigeria Army Headquarters on Tuesday inaugurated a five-member court martial to try two Generals and four other senior army officers, who were accused of misappropriation of funds.
The trial is coming 23 days after another court martial sitting in Kaduna commenced the trial of five senior army officers and 10 others for alleged sale of arms and ammunition to militants in the Niger Delta.
The court martial sitting at Mogadishu Barracks, Abuja, is headed by Maj-Gen. G. G. Umo of Defence Headquarters. Others members of the court martial are former Commander of the Joint Task Force, 2 Brigade Port Harcourt, Brig. Gen. S.A Salihu; Brig Gen. D.j.m. Igah; Brig. Gen. I. Adamu; and Brig. Gen. B.c Azurunwa, all from Army Headquarters.
Another member of the court martial, named as a "waiting member" is Big. Gen. S.A Riwanu. The charge sheet red by Umo at a closed-door inaugural sitting of the court was titled: ”Convening order for general court martial under section 131(2).(d) of the Armed Forces Act. Cap A 20 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 by Maj. Gen. K. A Role, Commander Army Headquarters Garrison".
The accussed officers who appeared before the court on Tuesday included Brig. Gen. O.A.C. Ariahu, (formaly of Nigeria Defence Academy); Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. M.D. Yusuf.
