Kabul: Two brides, one child, 9 police and 21 Taliban militants including one suicide bomber have been killed and a number of people injured in fresh violence in different provinces of Afghanistan, said officials.
Two brides and a child were killed in an attack by the militants in Kandahar province on Friday morning. ‘They were going from Herat to Kandahar when the militants attacked them and killed two brides and a child in the area of Hawz-e-Madad’ confirmed Provincial Police Chief Sayd Agha Saqib.
The militants also attacked another vehicle which was carrying people to a wedding ceremony in Zabul province injuring two who were in serious condition in a Hospital in Qalat, said an official and hospital sources.
In neighboring Oruzgan province, officials and the US-led coalition forces have claimed killing of more than 20 Taliban militants in a joint operation launched by Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police and the coalition forces.
‘Three militants also were detained’ told provincial Police Chief Juma Gul Himmat.
In western Herat province, a former jihadi commander ambushed police chief of Shehrak district, Ghor province, killing the police chief and 8 police Friday morning, according to police chief of Ghor Shah Jehan Noori. The jehadi commander, who, according to the police chief, is supported by ‘some people in the government’, has also detained 19 police. 5 police were injured in the incident.
In neighboring Farah province, where the Taliban are in control of at least two districts, a suicide bomber blew himself near a convoy of ISAF and ANA forces killing himself only.
Frah Police Chief Abdul Rehman Sarjang confirmed the incident and said, ‘A Taliban commander in the area has recruited Arab, Chechen and Pakistani suicide bombers. Our forces will launch an offensive operation against them soon.’
In another incident, police killed a robber and detained six more in Herat province where they were looting passengers in broad day light.
