Two days Tobacco Control Sensitization program

Srinagar, May 22 (Scoop News) –   Valedictory function for two days sensitization program of Administrators of Educational Institutions of Srinagar district was held today at BRC – GHS Rajbagh. This anti tobacco sensitization program was organized by JK Voluntary Health Association in collaboration with Chief Education Officer, Srinagar.

The function was inaugurated by . A.M.Mir IAS (Retd) Executive Director JK VHA and the Valedictory function was presided over by Prof Dr G Q Allaqaband. Various speakers who spoke on the occasion include, Dr Gazalla Tabassum, Dr Yasmeen Kango, Dr Wali Mohammad,  Mallik, CEO Srinagar, Shabir Ahmed Lone (Drug & Food Control Organization)  and  Adv Mudassir Mehmood. 32 Principals of various Govt Higher Secondary Schools and Zonal Educational Officers were sensitized on various aspects of Tobacco Control laws and measure, particularly in respect of Section 4 & Section 6 of Tobacco Control Act 2003. 

During the course of interaction it was emphasized to make Schools and educational institutions Tobacco and smoke free as they fall under the premises of Public places. It was also emphasized on them to put up signage’s (size 60×30 cm) with No Smoking message within the school premises. Stress was also laid on ensuring that no cigarette vendor or shop keeper sells cigarettes within 100 yards from the school premises. Failing these instructions, the Head of the Institution would be held responsible for any violation of the Act.

The participating administrators pledged to put all these signage’s to ensure all the schools become tobacco and smoke free.

The vote of thanks was given by the Principal of higher Secondary School Nawakadal. He requested JK Voluntary Health Association to sensitize Higher Secondary School students who are more vulnerable to this menace.
