Two dead in N Ireland British army base shooting

LONDON: Two people died in a gun attack at a British army base in Northern Ireland, a spokesman for the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said Saturday.

Ambulance service spokesman Norman Cunningham told media that two people had died and four were injured in the attack at the headquarters of the Royal Engineers in Northern Ireland at Masserene, northwest of Belfast.

The attack, which is thought to be serious, took place at the headquarters of the Royal Engineers in Northern Ireland at Masserene in County Antrim, police said, but could not provide further details at this stage.

Northern Ireland endured three decades of civil unrest known as the Troubles in which around 3,000 people were killed. The violence largely ended with the signing of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.
