Two Degrees Food™ officially launched today as the first one-for-one food company designed to fight childhood hunger with the debut of its all-natural Two Degrees nutrition bars. For every Two Degrees nutrition bar sold, a medically-formulated nutrition pack is given to a malnourished child in Africa. With the launch of Two Degrees nutrition bars, everyday consumers can make a difference in the lives of hungry children around the world by purchasing food that tastes good and does good for the global community at www.twodegreesfood.com.
"Two degrees of separation is all that stands between us and the 200 million hungry children around the globe,” says 25-year-old social entrepreneur Will Hauser, who co-founded Two Degrees. “We see ourselves not just as an innovative food company, but as a movement against childhood hunger. Our customers can join us in this fight through simple, everyday purchases of delicious Two Degrees nutrition bars.”
Two Degrees nutrition bars, developed by the former Creative Chef and Director of Product Development for Odwalla, are all-natural and gluten-free. A delicious fusion of real fruits, toasted nuts and seeds, and wholesome grains, the bars are a healthy and socially conscious option for a wide range of consumers. Two Degrees currently offers its line of nutrition bars in three flavors: Apple Pecan, Cherry Almond and Chocolate Peanut. For $19.95 at www.twodegreesfood.com customers can buy a nine-bar box, which triggers the donation of nine medically-formulated nutrition packs to hungry children.
To fulfill its one-for-one mission, Two Degrees has partnered with Valid Nutrition and Partners In Health, two non-profit organizations with deep experience in the treatment of childhood malnutrition. Two Degrees works with Valid Nutrition to produce nutrition packs known as Ready-to-Use Food (RUF). These nutrition packs treat severe and chronic malnutrition with up to 95% success rates, but currently reach only a fraction of the children around the world who need them. Valid Nutrition manufactures RUF in countries where RUF is distributed, supporting local economics through local employment and ingredient sourcing. Two Degrees works with Partners In Health and other distribution partners to deliver these products to children in need. Two Degrees’ first focus in its one-for-one donations is Malawi, Africa, where it will leverage Valid Nutrition’s on-the-ground manufacturing facilities and Partners In Health’s established community distribution channels.
“Two Degrees Food is all about creating a sustainable way to help feed hungry children by making everyday habits count,” explains Lauren Walters, co-founder of Two Degrees Food. “Key to this mission is making products that taste good and do good for the global community. From sourcing locally-produced and fair trade ingredients for our nutrition bars, to using 100% recyclable packaging, to manufacturing the nutrition packs on-site in the countries and regions in which they are distributed, we have developed an end-to-end ‘values chain’ that supports a viable business that gives back with every product sold.”
