Two maternity hospital to come up in Jammu & Srinagar : Chib

Jammu, March 11 (Scoop News) – The government will set up 200-bedded maternity hospitals at Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu and Bemina in Srinagar to ease out the burden on existing hospitals for which the centre will provide Rs. 50 crore for each hospital.

This was stated by Minister for Medical Education Prof. R. S. Chib while winding up discussion on Demands of Grants of Medical Education department in the Assembly today.

The Minister said 165 doctors have applied for engagement on contractual basis as medical faculty members. He said government is also considering increase of the retirement age for the faculty members to 60 years to prolong their retention in the department.

Prof Chib said a proposal to increase MBBS seats in GMC Srinagar and Jammu to 150 from existing 100 in each has been sent to Centre. He said PG courses in three disciplines of government Dental College Srinagar has also been taken with the Union Government. He said all the three batches of 2004-05-06 of Indira Gandhi Government Dental College Jammu have been regularized with the active support of Union Health Ministry.

The Minister said a proposal for regularizing of adhoc employees of GMC Srinagar/Jammu is also being processed. He said a proposal to secure accreditation for four hospitals has also been sent to Centre, adding on the grant of same the functioning in these hospitals will improve significantly.

            The Minister said the Department is providing healthcare facilitates to the people round the clock which it continued even during unrest in Kashmir Valley last year. He said additional Emergency Block, Attendant Sarai and Guest House at Govt. Medical College Jammu, besides installation of STP for Super Specialty Hospital Jammu were completed and made functional. Additional Medical Gas Points and emergency power supply to OPD Block were provided to casualty block at GMC Hospital Jammu, he said and added that Advance Yoga Centre has also been started in the hospital. 

            He said the Blood Bank of GMC Jammu has been upgraded as Model Blood Bank, which figures among the fifteen model blood banks of the country. He said new OPD/Casualty block of SMHS Hospital and new OPD Block of CD Hospital Srinagar, besides Neonatal ward in L.D Hospital Srinagar have been completed. He said work on Indira Gandhi Dental College Jammu Phase-II has also been started.  State-of-the-art Dental Hospital is being constructed at a cost of Rs 45 Crore in Jammu, he added.

            The Minister said under PMSSY, Govt Medical College Jammu and Srinagar have been taken up for upgradation at the original cost of Rs. 120 crore each. He said revised DPR at the cost of Rs. 117.31 crore and Rs. 136.08 crore (Central Share only) for Super Specialty Hospital Jammu and Institute of Traumatology Srinagar respectively has been  sent to Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for approval.

             The Minister said that 4124 posts of faculty, doctors and para-medical staff have been created for Super specialty hospitals /various disciplines/Associated hospitals of Medical College Jammu/Srinagar. He said some of the doctors have been trained for super speciality disciplines also.

Earlier, cut motions moved by several legislators were withdrawn and the House passed the grants proposed for Medical education Department with voice vote.
