November 26, 2008 will be a date that will rock the world. As the year 2008 nears an end, interesting events have popped up. The Mumbai Massacre is indeed one of such events. So far, the verdict is still out there on who is really responsible for the mass killing in Mumbai. Spy and intelligence agencies across the world were caught with their pants down.
This was an attack that involved no suicide bombings. However, suspicions are aimed towards Pakistan. But the Pakistani government had denied it had anything to do with it. Still, there is the possibility that the gunmen calling themselves the “Deccan Mujuhideen” did come from Pakistan.
So far, Pakistan is having its fair share of fighting terrorists.
In India, two Indian men were arrested. They are the first to be arrested since the Mumbai Massacre had ended. Both men were illegally buying mobile phone cards which were used by the gunmen.
Unfortunately Indian law enforcement agencies were at each other’s throats. However, police from Kashmir who has been at the center of the tensions say that one of the two men Mukhtar Ahmed is an undercover officer. They have been trying to get Ahmed released.
However, it also brings into question the state of India’s security forces. According to the Kashmir police force, Ahmed is a special officer tasked with infiltrating Pakistani militant groups.
So far, two men have been arrested. But authorities claim that one of the men is an undercover police officer. The Mumbai Massacre led to an international investigation. Pakistan had agreed to send the chief of its top spy agency to help with the investigation.
Being blamed for the Mumbai Massacre only adds to the troubles that Pakistan is dealing with. Pakistani police officers are resigning from the force out of fear of being killed by members of the Taliban.
This will prove to be one of the first international problems that US President-elect Barack Obama must face once he takes the office of US President on January 20, 2009.
