Kabul: At least two million Afghan refugees, who were expelled by the Iranian government, have returned to Iran because of poverty and misery in Afghanistan.
Attending a press conference, the Afghan Minister for Refugees, Sher Mohammad Etbari said that the government of Iran had recently expelled millions of Afghan refugees but the rising food prices and lack of educational and health facilities in Afghanistan forced them to go back to Iran.
‘Currently, there are some 2.8 million Afghans living in Iran, but the government of Iran has issued refugee cards only to one million Afghans,’ added the Minister.
The government of Afghanistan has repeatedly requested Iran not to expel Afghan refugees because the government in Afghanistan was not too strong to provide them houses and other basic facilities presently.
