UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesner- Results and recap

On Saturday November 15, 2008 the UFC hosted what it is self proclaiming their biggest fight every. The Hall of Famer and UFC Heavyweight of the world Randy “the Natural” Couture and former NCAA wrestling champ and former WWE champion Brock Lesner will meet. This was one of the most anticipated fights for fans of MMA fans. Many fans want to see the return of Couture other want to see Lesner rise to the top.

Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesner

The return of Randy “The Natural “Couture was met with excitement to see the 45 year champion come back after a year off due to a contract dispute. The challenger for his heavyweight title had other ideas. Couture came out in the first round controlling the fight and not letting Lesner do much. Lesner came out as started landing jab before landing a giant right hand dropping Couture. Lesner then finish off Couture with repeated chops to the head. Lesner become only the second person to win a championship in his fourth fight, the other was Randy Couture. The loss send Randy to a record of  16-8 and Lesner rises to 3-1. The first title defense for Lesner will be the winner of Frank Mir/Nogueira.

Kenny Florian Vs. Joe Stevenson

Kenny Florian was looking to send a message to the UFC and to the current lightweight champion BJ Penn and that is what he did. Joe Stevenson tried to push the fight forward and stay in the face on Florian but all that did was get him hit. Kenny contol the match on the feet and then when it went to the ground remind everyone that he has ground skills. He sunk in a rear naked choke at 4 minutes in the first round. Kenny improves to 13-3 and Stevenson falls to 34-9. Kenny should get his title shot next but it could be later rather than sooner. BJ Penn will fight GSP and attempt to hold both the lightweight and welterweight titles.
