UFC 92: THE ULTIMATE 2008 Recap

One December 27, 2008 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Los Vegas the UFC  ended  the year with its biggest event to date, UFC 93: The Ultimate 2008, Forrest Griffin will defended his title against “Sugar” Rashad Evans. Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira took on former heavyweight champion, Frank Mir for the Interim World Heavyweight Champion. Two of top light heavyweights went  toe-to-toe when Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva battles former light heavyweight champion, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.   The event did not disappoint delivering some highlight reel knockouts.

Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans

The light heavyweight champion and the original Ultimate fighter Forrest Griffin(16-5) first title defense since winning the title from Quinton “Rampage” Jackson did not goes as planned. Forest came out with nice combination and landing some brutal leg kicks. Rashad did not seem to have answer during the first two rounds.  Rashad was a able to get in forest guard and start inflecting damage. However, the end came when as Rashad went to stand up it appeared Forest attempted to throw a triangle choke (at least that what it might have been) and got caught in a bad position.  That is all it took for Rashad to become the new light weight champion.  Rashad finished via TKO Forest at 2 minutes in to the 3rd round. Who is next for Rashad the most likely contender seems to be Rampage Jackson who had his who match. Rashad is 17-0 and undeafeated in the UFC.

Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir

The Interim World Heavyweight Champion Antonio “Minotauro” Nogueira (31-5-1) was looking to defend his intern title and get a shot at the real Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesner.  Frank Mir (11-3) was looking to recapture his title. This could have been a BBJ match as both are black belt but it never touches the ground for more than a few second. Mir came out landing combination and knocking Nogueria to the ground. Mir boxing was top notch as he out boxed and that is all it took to win a TKO victory in the first minute of the 2nd round. Mir will face the true Heavyweight champion Brock Lesner  and hand him his second professional loss.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Quinton Jackson

Quinton Jackson came out and knocks out Silvia and the match was over in less than 3 minutes. The win for Jackson was huge and with that win it may put him in line for another shot at the title that he lost to Forrest.
