CAIRO, March 30 – Uganda might grant Muammar Gaddafi, if he seeks asylum, Al Arabiya television reported on Wednesday after Western and other states have suggested that the Libyan leader into exile to end the conflict in his country.
The television gave no further details.
Uganda is part of the African Union, the ad hoc committee to try to broker a solution to the conflict with Libya after the United Nations authorized the Libyan air strikes to protect civilians, troops loyal to Mr Gaddafi.
USA, UK and Qatar, who joined others at the meeting in London on Tuesday, proposed a Libyan Gaddafi and his family be allowed to go into exile, where they took the offer quickly sold out within six weeks of bloodshed.
Gaddafi has been the driving force of the African Union, its generosity has been extended to the Libyan economy to reach the entire sub-Saharan Africa, and have few close friends in power.
But analysts say that many African leaders have been frustrated by the erratic behavior of Gaddafi, some still harbor resentments over past interference in internal conflicts and others do not want to tarnish their image by giving a further home.
Uganda’s government announced on Tuesday it had taken control of a majority stake in Uganda Telecom, Libya, the latest initiative to freeze Libyan assets in the East African country in implementing UN sanctions.
