The stabbing and murder with the umbrella tip had taken place on April 26 at the Termini station. After the attack, Doina Matei was caught on CCTV leaving the station after the attack and murder had taken place.
This is just part of series of crimes committed recently by Romanians. As a result, anger across Italy was triggered. At the same time, it had soured the ties between Italy and Romania. The victim’s name was Vanessa Russo. She had died from the wounds suffered during the attack at Termini station.
Police were able to track down Doina Matei by surveillance camera footage. Doina Matei was tracked down at a house in Tolentino which is 160 miles east of Rome.
Outcry has spread across the country over a series of crimes committed by immigrants. Most of the immigrants charged with the crimes were from Romania.
Giovanna Reggiani, a 47-year-old woman was mugged and left dying in a ditch in Rome. She fell into a coma only to die a few days later. Nicolae Mailat, a 25-year-old man from Romania was found having the handbag in possession.
Senate approval passed by only two votes; but, some left-wing members refused to support the measure feeling that the new rules were too harsh.
