Ok so my first political report from Newton/Wichita, Kansas. Let me first say that I am a registered Independant and at this time I have not made a decision on who gets my vote. The buzz around this is area is pretty mixed. I would say that Obama has the edge in areas that I’ve been around.
On one hand, I have my co-workers. They are mostly in the center, a couple a little more right and a one a little more left. The biggest news in the work area…Obama’s associations and the mystery surrounding him. Most of us are not comfortable with all the questions out there. And honestly, I don’t feel like he does a good job to change minds about this. I think that people are voting on emotion right now. And that’s too bad.
On the other hand, there are my friends. I was surprised to find out after a conversation with one of my friends that he was supporting Obama. We generally have very similar philosophies. But his view on the political scene right now is that Obama presents a better opportunity for Foreign Affairs. He likes that Obama wants to go talk to the rest of the world and try to ‘fix’ the USA image. Other than that, he’s pretty split on other issues.
As for the rest of the area, well, I see lots of Obama signs, and a handful of McCain signs. It scares me a bit to think of the impact that Obama could possibly have if he continues to push the socialist tenets that he talks about. I think it would be bad for the country and the population. I am not an Obama supporter at all, but I cannot classify myself as a McCain supporter either. I don’t know that either candidate is best for our country. I hope something comes up that can help me make a good decision.
